DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 pandemic has rewritten the rules of travel for now and in future. Social distancing, one of the keys to stopping transmission, cannot be enforced the same way in an aircraft.\nIn this webinar, Siemens and Airbus will talk about the role of high-fidelity CFD simulation in understanding the transport of human cough droplets in an aircraft cabin.\nIn this webinar, Siemens and Airbus will discuss:\n- Simulation of cough droplets from an average human in a commercial aircraft\n- Challenges in engineering aircraft cabins\n- The role of simulation and Simcenter STAR-CCM+ in understanding aircraft cabin safety\n- Steps involved in understanding risk of disease transmission from cough droplets\nThe joint team will discuss the complexity of modeling the transport of cough droplets in an aircraft, as well as the impact and effectiveness of face masks in reducing droplet transmission from a cough.\n \nSimulations were done using Simcenter STAR-CCM+, a Multiphysics CFD simulation tool from Siemens Digital Industries Software, which was used to support the methodologies developed in this preliminary study.\n \nMeet our experts, who will discuss the methodology and challenges of modeling cough droplets in an airplane\n \n- Dr. Andreas Wick, Manager, Airbus Operations GmbH\nAndreas is responsible for CFD methods, tools and strategy in the Environmental Control Domain of Airbus Commercial with years of experience designing comfortable, safe aircraft cabins for Airbus’ leading aircraft models.\n \n- Prashanth Shankara, Marketing Manager, Siemens Digital Industries Software\nPrashanth is a CFD Engineer and Marketing Manager with Siemens bringing a decade of experience in simulation across a variety of industries.\n \n- Dr. Aaron Bird, Product Manager, Siemens Digital Industries Software\nAaron is an experienced CFD Engineer and manages the Learning Services Portfolio at Siemens. Before Siemens, Aaron was a researcher at NIOSH participating in the testing & approval of the N95 and N99 respirator masks.\n \n
