DESCRIPTION:One of the fastest growing segments of the aircraft industry is the Airtaxi and Urban Air Mobility market. To spur innovation Boeing has sponsored the GoFLY X-prize for the company that can design and demonstrate a “flying car”capable of VTOL takeoff and landing and completing performance objectives.\n \nOne of the key challenges for many aircraft designers is meeting the unique set of propulsion requirements. Entries into the GoFly competition must be able to transition from VTOL to forward flight while maintaining control. Traditional propulsion systems have struggled to efficiently bridge the transition leading to a number of daunting technical challenges.\n \nSpurred by these challenges one aerospace start-up plans to disrupt the industry through smarter thrust generation. HEKA, a Florida-based aerospace start-up, is developing a novel propulsion system through vectored thrust. As a proving ground for this new technology, HEKA intends to take part in Phase II of the Go Fly competition.\nTheir goal is to provide the central propulsion component of the coming personal and air taxi revolution. \n \nHEKA is applying Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and intelligent design search technology to help solve the aerodynamic and propulsion challenges posed by the Go Fly competition. These include demonstrating VTOL capabilities within a takeoff/landing envelope and a timed run of 6 laps of a 1 nautical mile course, all while maintaining stability in winds up to 15 knots and aiming for a compact & light manned vehicle. \n \nAttend this webinar and learn:\n \n- The role of the digital twin in aircraft design\n- How to identify the best designs early in the process to reduce cost\n- What the future of vectored thrust VTOL aircraft holds \n
